The site of lot 144 presents both incredible opportunities and unique design challenges with expansive long-range views, dramatic topography, and steep grades that strongly influence how the home engages the landscape.
From the beginning of the design process, the client’s vision centered on two primary goals: creating a seamless connection between interior and exterior environments and designing a stair feature that becomes a defining architectural feature within the home to serve as a focal point of the exterior design while also bringing natural light into both levels of the home.
Our early design response uses a series of layered outdoor living spaces along the rear façade to extend daily life into the landscape. Large openings, intentional sightlines, and carefully framed views help blur the boundary between inside and out, allowing the surrounding Black Hills to become part of the living experience.
We are still early in the process, but excited about where this project is headed.
